Attending Postnatal Fitness Classes with Twins: Building Strength and Resilience

A question we often get asked is… Can I bring my twins to Fit Together?

Spoiler alert… the answer is yes. As a mom to twins myself, I hold a special place in my heart for the twin families out there!

Welcoming twins is a beautiful, rewarding, and often overwhelming experience. Along with the joy of double the cuddles and love comes the physical challenge of postpartum recovery. For many new parents, postnatal fitness classes become an essential part of regaining strength, confidence, and wellness—especially with the added challenge of twins.

The first few weeks (and even months) after giving birth to twins can feel like a whirlwind of diaper changes, feedings, and sleepless nights. It's easy to feel disconnected from your body. But postnatal fitness classes offer a supportive space to not only reconnect with your physical self but also build strength in a way that’s gentle and effective.

These classes are specifically designed for postpartum bodies, which means exercises are tailored to help with recovery, muscle building, and pelvic floor health. When you have twins, your body goes through even more strain, so these classes often provide modifications for moms who may need extra support.

Our postnatal fitness instructors understand that twins mean double the challenge, so they offer a variety of options to accommodate. Having your babies with you while you work out can even be a calming experience for them, as they feel the warmth and security of being close to you.

The best part, though, is the community. Whether you’re attending in person or virtually, you’re surrounded by other new people who understand the highs and lows of parenthood. The encouragement, shared experiences, and friendship help make those tough moments more manageable. You quickly realize that you’re not alone in this journey.

In the end, attending postnatal fitness classes with twins isn’t just about physical recovery—it’s about mental resilience, finding balance, and nurturing yourself as a new mom. It’s a reminder that self-care is vital, even when the world feels like it’s spinning with the demands of twin life.

Which class works best with twins?

As for specific classes, the most approachable class to start with would be Fit Together Stroller Fitness, whether indoor or outdoor. The mobile format of this class, means that your twins are safe and (usually) content in their stroller while you get your workout in. That said, we’ve had twin parents succeed in pretty much every class, with a bit of determination!

Stroller Fitness- the easiest class to manage with twins as they are both contained in the stroller while you do walking and cardio drills, strength, core and stretching. You can bring your baby carrier as an option if one twin needs to get out of the stroller. 😊

Parent & Baby Fitness/Barre/Postnatal Sampler/Bootcamp- these classes are possible with pre-mobile twins if you are confident. Bringing a baby carrier may help soothe if a baby gets fussy.

Parent & Baby Aquafit- we’ve had twin parents join with another adult in the pool or as a helper on the sidelines,.  We’ve also seen parents alternate which baby they bring by finding at-home childcare or making use of the Rady Childminding Tot Lot. Aquafit is a lot of fun once your babies are 6 months +.

Adventure Club or Family Adventure Club- this is another great program to try if you are able to recruit another adult to join you, or keen to try babywearing with both babies like one of our super stars did 😉.

If you’re a new parent of twins, we highly recommend taking the time for yourself and joining a postnatal fitness class. Your body (and mind) will thank you!

Other Twin parents say:

Stroller Fitness was great with my twins, and the other moms were super supportive and helpful. The hardest part was getting there and unpacked! Once there, we were all contained. It takes a community to raise a child and stroller fit exemplified that.  Just sign up and get yourself there. That's the hardest part and you'll enjoy the workout, support and mom time. It's hard to plan social visits with twins so it's nice to have time to talk to other moms who are in the thick of it. – Shelley

I love Fit Together postnatal classes with my twins. I think the most important tip is to just lower your expectations! For me, getting out the house is so important, the change of scenery is good for my mental health and everyone is so impressed that you made it to class with two babies, there is no judgement after that if you get there late or have to leave early if everything is going sideways. After that, for bootcamp specifically, just bring in the stroller (I tried to carry my bag and both car seats and just ended up dropping everything in the parking lot lol). I also leave one or both babies at home if I can! It’s a nice break for me, but obviously that’s not an option for everyone.

Hopefully this helps out some fellow multiple moms, the community aspect of group fitness is extra important with two babies! - Robyn

I highly recommend joining the Prenatal Aquafit class while pregnant with twins because it feels amazing to take the weight of your belly from your body for an hour! it’s also wild to notice how much weight you actually carry as soon as you step out of the water-  Theresa

My advice to other parents of baby twins is… First and foremost, you are so much more capable than you give yourself credit for! Going to my first Fit Together stroller fitness class gave me an incredible amount of confidence. It was the first time I had taken them out on my own. And it was liberating!

The twins will be distracted by everything that's going on. And even if they cry for some or most of the class, they probably won't be the only ones.  Bring snacks if you can. And just go with the flow. You can do it! And I guarantee it'll be so worth it! - Ashley

I loved doing Fit Together with my twins. My suggestion is to be flexible with your schedule. Life with twins is often about sticking to a routine so everyone stays happy and well-rested, but if things go a little off track while you're out at your fitness class, try not to stress (too much anyway!) Someone will inevitably fall asleep in the car on the way home, or wake up well before you expected them too during your workout. Give yourself props for getting out of the house with two babies and adjust your schedule as needed for the rest of the day to hopefully make it through!

Also it’s important to give yourself plenty of grace. Doing anything with 2 babies is tough, so you may have to make some adjustments during your workout, it's great for your kids to see you being physically active and making your health and fitness a priority, even if things don't always go perfectly. - Stephanie
